Life's Little Ironies
Occasionally when life is getting me down -- something comes along and picks me back up.
I was IMing with a good friend yesterday (Nat strikes 2) - and I mentioned that I would not be attending any more concerts at big Arenas. Why spend all that money, to sit in the worst seats in the nose bleed section and watch the entire concert on the jumbotron. Its like your not even there, right?
So I get home last night afterwork, and lament that I'll be spending another lonely Friday night at home. I am recently single, so I'm not used to having nothing to do on a Friday night.
My dinner is on the stove when my cellphone rings. My has friend called to tell me to get my ass to MSG for a Destiny's Child concert. Its already 8:10 pm and the opening act is on stage. So I left my dinner half cooked on stove (so not like me), got dressed and ran out the door. I was having one of those "I hate that I live in a borough" moments, cause 34th street seemed so far away at this point.
I got there, in record time - Bless the MTA. Now I'll admit I am a bit of a hypocrite...as I said earlier in the day, I would not pay for tickets to an arena show, but free ones, well that's a different story.
I go to will call and get the ticket. I excitedly head toward Tower D, thinking that this will be another show seen on the big screen. But to my surprise I am ushered out onto the floor of the Garden, and walked up to me 3rd row center seat! I've finally made it to the head of the line! I've often dreamed what it would be like to sit so close at a concert! And let me tell you it was all that I could have dreamed it was. The girls brought down the house and I ended up catching one of Beyonce's sweaty towels (should I sell this on Ebay?).
Talk about life's little ironies! Who would of ever guessed that is how I would have spent my night on Friday, July 29, 2005.
A big "Thanks" goes out to Ethel Watters!
